Choices of Funeral Service

Funeral planning in
Rainworth and surrounding areas

Contact us 01623 797647
No matter what kind of funeral you have in mind we will tailor our service to your specific requirements, to ensure that the funeral is an individual, special and memorable occasion.
Our funeral planner and family or friends will meet to arrange the funeral at a time convenient to you. If needed, we can facilitate a home visit if this is preferable, due to mobility issues. Our funeral planner will carry out all practical arrangements required to relieve you of these duties at what can be a very emotional time. As every funeral service is different it follows that the needs, support and guidance necessary will vary from person to person.
Our commitment extends to every detail of the funeral – for example, orders of service, floral tributes, newspaper notices, and donations. If you do require us to place a notice of death in a newspaper, we advise that we are the funeral service you are using so friends and family can contact us rather than yourselves if they have any queries.
Whether a cremation or burial, we will guide you through the choices you will need to make to allow the service to be personal to you and your loved one.

Floral tributes

We are happy to support you in selecting floral tributes to accompany the coffin. We work in partnership with Petals and Plantstyle from Blidworth and hold their design books in our office for you to select from. They are very obliging and will alter designs to meet your specific needs. You are more than welcome to use your own florist, if you could kindly ask them to deliver flowers by 9:30 am on the morning on the funeral. Following the funeral service, if you wish, we will return your floral tributes to your home for you to keep.

Coffins, caskets and cremation urns

We use a local coffin supplier who provide a wide range of styles and budgets to suit all tastes. From a simple pine veneer coffin to a bespoke design painted coffin, you can select what you feel most appropriate for your loved one. We also have a supplier for environmentally friendly coffins which have to be used if choosing a woodland burial which provides willow and other natural material coffins and caskets.

Other services

There are many other services we can assist you with from orders of service to balloons or doves, simply ask and we will endeavour to fulfil your requests.

Many families prefer donations to be made rather than floral tributes. If you identify a charity of your choice, we will provide a collection box and sign informing attendees of the chosen charity. Following the funeral, you can take the donations yourself, or more commonly leave them for us to collect. We then usually wait a couple of weeks as we frequently have donations posted to us then pass them on to your chosen charity on your behalf. We inform the charity of who the donations are on behalf of and request that the charity contact you to confirm receipt. Again, we will work with whatever decision you make.

Memorial stones

We can arrange for memorial stones from a huge range of styles to suit all tastes and provide any assistance you may require with choosing the wording for the inscription. Again we use a local supplier; Lidsters of Worksop who advise us of any rules particular churches and diocese have regarding type of stone and style of memorial. If you have permission to reopen an existing family grave for your loved one to join them please be aware that the headstone will temporarily be removed to avoid damage during this process. It does take a number of weeks from ordering your headstone or plaque for it to arrive.

Cremated remains

You will be given three choices of disposal of cremated remains;
Scattered in the Garden of Remembrance at the crematorium by arrangement with family present
Scattered in the Garden of Remembrance at the crematorium with no one present
Returning to us to be collected at a later date. From here you may wish to have an interment or scatter somewhere of significance, or maybe keep in an urn. We suggest you do not rush this decision, it is fine to give yourself time to consider.
We are happy to collect the cremated remains of the deceased from the crematorium within a week of the service and hold them in our safe keeping until you are ready to collect them from us. These will only be released to the person accepting responsibility for the payment of the funeral account unless this person gives us permission to release to a different person.

Tithe Green Burial Ground

Tithe Green Burial Ground offers grave plots for burial in eco-friendly coffins and shrouds as well as interment of cremated remains. Common choices for eco-friendly coffins include wool, willow, water hyacinth, banana leaf and soft woods. Each grave plot is suitable for a single coffin or up to four cremated remains.
A number of meadow areas are available for burial and over time additional areas will be added. Individual grave plots within these areas can be blessed according to different faiths.
Grave plots can also be pre-purchased, but specific plots are not normally chosen until just prior to the burial. Where family plots have been requested in meadow areas, both plots are chosen adjacent to each other at the time of the first burial.

The Day of the Funeral

  • Wendy will contact you on the morning of the service to check everything is in order and answer any last minute thoughts.
  • The cortege will arrive at the house or starting point of your choice with good time allowed for the journey to the church or crematorium.
  • The funeral director will advise the main mourners when the cortege is ready to leave.
  • When the cortege arrives at the Church or Crematorium the director will make it known to those personnel of your arrival.
  • The Funeral Conductor will invite you to wait and follow behind the coffin.
  • The service in Church or Crematorium is usually about 25 minutes.
  • A committal service at the Cemetery or Crematorium usually takes 10 minutes.
  • After the service you will be shown to an area where you can view the flowers and talk to other mourners if you desire.
  • ‚ÄčIf you wish to have flowers returned to your home Wendy can arrange for this
  • If you are using the limousine(s) you will be taken to your home or to your venue for your reception.
We take the names of people attending the funeral so you have a list to use for if you wish to place an obituary in a newspaper. We do not take names of people following the coffin in to avoid disrupting proceedings, but presume you will be aware of these people’s names. We then send you this list with guidance about how to place an obituary in the Chad (local newspaper) as well as your final account and feedback form/questionnaire. We would be very grateful if you would take the time to complete this in order for us to monitor and look for ways to improve further.
